This poem does not rhyme,
But don’t think me a flake.
It doesn’t rhyme on purpose
Not as if by accident.
I went out of my way
To keep this poem rhyme-free.
So I’ve removed any rhyming words
It was very important to myself.
Because rhyming poems are silly
And too easy for serious poets.
As evidenced by that demeaning phrase,
“I’m a poet and I don’t realize it.”
So, take my advice, my students,
And heed it in good time.
If you want to be a true poet,
Avoid all words that sound alike.
